Worked example / 01 · Fictional project

When two owners haven’t agreed what the site should offer.

A longer questionnaire will not settle the choice. Ask for one decision, then record what can proceed.

A page-by-page questionnaire helps when the client knows the answer. Here, two owners disagree about the offer itself. This is a fictional teaching example, not a customer result.

The notes we start with

Greyline Cabinetry has agreed on five pages: Home, Services, Process, Work and Contact. Mara wants to offer kitchen cabinetry only; Noah wants kitchens and baths. No final approver has been named.

Both owners have approved the Process copy. The Contact email is confirmed. Three project photographs and a customer quote have no recorded website-use permission.

The designer supplies these judgments. The tool does not read an inbox, inspect files or discover the disagreement.

Record one shared decision.

Home and Services depend on the same choice. Add one decision item and link it to both pages. Put the two current directions in the client-facing context. Keep private source references and studio notes in their separate fields.

Choose Needs a decision. Include this item in the next client message. Keep secondary questions in the studio record while the owners settle the offer.

Ask a question they can answer.

Home / Services — agree the offer and approver

The two current directions are kitchens only, or kitchens and baths. Please agree one direction together and name who will approve the final wording. Would a short joint decision call help?

That is the client-facing next step. A requested date helps planning; it never makes silence count as approval.

Keep the working record separate.

Home / ServicesNeeds a decision. Pause affected wording.
Process copyApproved version and evidence recorded.
Contact emailApproved address recorded.
Work photos / quotePermission not recorded. Leave unpublished.

A file received is not permission to publish. Record who approved the exact version and intended use. If you change the reference or linked pages in the tool, record approval again.

If the owners cannot choose, pause.

Arrange a joint decision call or pause Home and Services. Writing help can be scoped after the owners settle the offer. Do not fill the gap with guessed claims or mark an unapproved placeholder as publishable.

If the existing shared Doc keeps this clear, it is already doing the job. The tool is useful when the page relationships and separate outputs make the handoff easier to maintain.

Try the same case. Open the tool and load “Client cannot decide.” Compare Client request with Studio only. Save your current project before replacing it.
